Q: connect airport disk from internet Airport utility 6.3.5

Hello

I would like to connect from Internet to my TC disk.

my network looks like this Fritzbox (opened TCP UDP port 548) forwarded to Airport Extreme -> Airport Extreme 7.7.3 -> Time Capsule 7.6.4

AE, TC is setup only as a Offbridge mode. Back to my mac activated and green, Enabled disk sharing, correct password..etc

why I can not connect?

BTMM will not work in bridge behind a router. Apple never clearly state this anywhere.. but I can assure you there is no hope in your setup.. you have too many links.

Do not use BTMM.. it is far better to use direct connection by AFP..

    Read https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3413

The method is no3.. with a few slight changes..

You can use the Frtizbox to do ddns if you don't have a static Public IP.

You do not need to port translate.. Tesserax has a valid method.. but you might find it easier.. at least to get things working by simply using 548 TCP

The TC should be bridged.. and it has to get IP direct from the Frtizbox which is set by dhcp reservations to never change. You then port forward 548 to the TC.

ok, understand. I tried my best. Fritzbox 7490 has features build in that Apple airport doesn't have and I need them. I will try to play with it, but looks like I will try to sell Airports and buy UBNT instead. It looks like that every update Apple makes 20 features are gone.

Anyway thank you for the link and your time.

It looks like that every update Apple makes 20 features are gone.

They do follow the motto.. designed by geniuses for idiots.

I guess it makes life easier for average.. although in networking.. removing the details... makes them near impossible to get going as life gets more complicated on the network/internet side.

I do not have a 7490, and only briefly tested a 7390.. but one method to consider is using VPN. To this day I cannot wrap my head around whether the Fritz has a vpn server or not.. it seems to be software you download and install.. but check it out.

If you can setup the 7490 as vpn server to the network.. then you can simply use vpn client on remote device and become a member of the local lan.. that is the business method.. as it gives full security and full access..

Opening port 548 in the router to the airport/TC behind it.. that should not be hard.. I have used this setup and it works well.

I do run a complicated system as well.. since Apple routers were unable to work properly with PPPoE I need.. but I have opened 548 and can do remote access to the disk.. happy to test or allow access if you need help. My email is open in the profile.

    Absolutely true,

My network is also complicated I'm connecting so many devices to my network, Lights from Philips, Home Cinema, Apple TVs, UBNT Ip cameras and NVRs, my solar is on it too. Almost futuristic all works but not Apple HDD sharing. I'm waiting for fiber to be connected this year, so that is why I wanted to go ahead and have this sorted out.

Thanks for the offer for a testing, I will keep this in mind and I will let you know when I get this done.

Fritzbox has VPN. works pretty well, it has also file-sharing NAS so it works really well. Problem is Apple TV doesn't like that. There is also something called Prioritization: where you setup priority for internet usage. (In my house I get only 4mbits (I pay for 20) it makes enormous difference when kids stream...etc)

Fritzbox has an excellent app fo Iphone,  You can check your answering machine, switch on and off power outlets if you have them connected. Works quite well.

    You should check it out.

    UBNT has excellent features too,

Apple should make 2 versions of their firmware. Standrad and Advanced for people they need more features.
