Q: Can't receive email on ipad2

I Suddenly cannot receive emails on my ipad2. When I check for mail it will say it's downloading new messages, but doesn't and just says it's been updated.  i did everything Apple suggested, my internet connection is good, I rebooted the iPad, and tried deleting the email address and set it up again as suggested, but all that did was delete ALL of my messages and still cannot get any new ones.   My email account is intact and sending and receiving fine on my iphone5s.  HELP
