Bluetooth is off and won't let me turn back on

I have had Mac for nearly a year, no problem, suddenly my bluetooth is off, I was able to get my keyboard to work by unplugging all USB devices, mouse works only to click on something. the button to turn bluetooth on is greyed out. no devices are listed (previously they were, but weren't paired and when I clicked pair they weren't able to pair. Help!!
