Importing image into Adobe Illustrator CS4

I'm trying to import an image into Adobe Illustrator CS4 on my iMAC. I recently updated to OS X Yosemite and lost the function to drag and drop an image from Safari into Illustrator. It would tell me "Quicktime and Decompressor Required to view this image." After searching for a solution here, I found a work-around option of saving the image to downloads, or to my desktop, then being able to drag and drop it into Illustrator. As of yesterday, that option is no longer working. I'm not sure what happened. When I drag the image into the program, it flickers for a second and goes away completely. I've also tried File, Place, and selected the image to import. No luck there either. I don't even get the quicktime error message as I did before. I also tried reinstalling Illustrator from the disc.

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!

As you posted in the Safari forum, I assume you used Safari for what you've tried. It might help to see if the symptoms persist with images downloaded from another browser like FireFox. The fact that you can't use the regular file commands suggests that the image files may have some DRM scheme attached for copyright protection.

If nothing changes when you change browsers, you probably should see if the Adobe KBs or forums hold any clues.
