Web links in exported PDFs - open in new window?

Hello,

At the moment I'm using Pages version 4.3.

One problem I have with links in exported PDFs:

When such a PDF is uploaded and someone opens it in a browser (e.g. Safari)

clicking on a link replaces the content in the browser.

My question: Is it the same behavior in the latest Pages version (I haven't upgraded yet)

or is there an option now when creating links to open content in a new browser window or tab?

Many thanks.

The answer to your question is no to Pages '09 v4.3 and any release of Pages v5.

There is no capability within Pages (any version) that allows you to input the html necessary (<a href="web address" target="_blank">This link</a> ) in the link editor, that would force the PDF link to open in a new browser tab or window. You can input it, but the link editor throws the extra syntax away.

Browsers have the open new window/tab preference setting — an end user configuration choice.

I haven't seen the target="_blank" used anywhere but on websites. Again, it is an end-user browser configuration issue — something that you have no control over in the PDF, any more than you do in the Preview, and Adobe Reader preferences.

If you have Acrobat Pro, you might try editing the target syntax into an existing URL link in the PDF, and see if it is honored in a browser that does not have open in a new window, or tab configured.
