Sorry if this has been asked before but a quick trawl doesn't give me a recent answer.
G5 PowerMac 2.3 Late 2005 running the original drive which the System Profiles tells me is an HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B
The drive intermittently doesn't want to read and frequently doesn't want to write so it's time to replace it.
Looking for a recommendation on a replacement as it's an age since I did such a replacement on any of my machines.

I replaced the one in my Quad G5 with one of these...

What did you end up getting?
I ordered the one you recommended only to find it DOA - macupgrades.co.uk were brilliant (as usual) and gave me a full and quick refund. I then ordered another of the same (Samsung) - when it arrived it had a different code and part number but it's IDE and it's in and running perfectly.
It's still an SH-222A - I think the first one was a CHRX or something and this one different but it works and I'm happy. Thanks again for sending me in the right direction !
