Safari Crash

I was browsing on safari (on iPad), and suddenly it seemed to crash - and I got this message - Contact Apple Customer support immeditely

(Number - 877 908 2105). I want to know if this is a valid Apple care number, or someone pulled a fast one on me.

They asked for my Credit Card and address details and charged $39, only to tell me to clear my safari history.

Had it not been associated with apple, i would never have called such an entity.
