Will the ios 9 (1.3) GB take the space of ios 8 (4.5) GB In my Iphone?

I have an iphone 6 16 GB with ios 8.3 (4.5) GB. If in this july I update my software to ios9 which is of 1.3 GB , will it replace my ios 8.3 (4.5) GB space or it will need more space?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3

It will need 1.3 GB of free space to perform the installation. Once its done, it will release that 1.3GB. However during the installation it will in fact replace your existing iOS 8 files with the iOS 9 files, so it will use whatever iOS 8 is currently using.

So you probably won't loose any space once everything is done, but won't gain any either.

With that said, note that the version that will be released in July will be a Beta version and as such may very well still have unresolved bugs and issues. The full release will happen between September 21st and December.

Read carefully, and not out of context. That is the space required to stage the update for installation; it is NOT the size of iOS after installation on the phone. The size of either version after installation is not mentioned. My guess is that iOS 9 will require more space than iOS 8, because I've never seen any operating system update that was smaller than its predecessor.

Smaller, more convenient updates.

iOS 9 does even more to efficiently stream new updates to your device without having to first download and unpack them — which means you don’t need as much free space to update. And when it’s time for an update, you’ll get new notification options that let your device update while you sleep or when you use it least.

iOS 9 1.3GB

iOS 8 4.58GB

iOS 8 required 4.5GB of space to install if you updated over the air directly on the device. That is not the same thing as requiring 4.5Gb of space once its installed.

The actual iOS footprint is around 2GB once installed, and that will not change.

Only the required space when installing has been reduced so you don't have to delete as much stuff when updating iOS.

Also if you updated using iTunes on a computer, then the space requirements for updating on the actual device were close to nothing, since all the unpacking and processing is done on the computer and not the device.
