Managing a network switch with an ios device

Hello All,

I have a HDMI switch that uses a web based GUI to control it, so I can plug in an Ethernet cable to the switch it is kinda like a 24 port managed network switch, looks identical

What I am wanting to do is be able to log into the switch with an iphone or ipad to change the inuts and outouts

With my laptop i change my IP4 settings to

ip address: 192.168.11.11

Sub 255.255.255.0

DNS Server: 168.95.1.1 and 168.95.192.1

After that I am able to log into the switch by connecting to 192.168.168.254

Can I setup and extra airport extreme to help me do this or am I wacky thinking I can do this

Thanks for you time

Kent

You can do what you want..

But heck it is a lot easier to put your switch on the main network... why not move the IP address which looks highly default to me.. to your main IP range of the network.

Assuming you have wireless as part of your network you can then access the switch any time you like.

If you already have some apple router in the main network.. and simply cannot get ethernet to switch location.. then using an extreme as wireless bridge is also fine.. dead easy in fact.. however if your main network does not use an apple router.. it cannot be done this way.. the easy peasy method.

ip address: 192.168.11.11

Sub 255.255.255.0

DNS Server: 168.95.1.1 and 168.95.192.1

There is no way in the world this can work..

Did you double the 11 instead of the 168..

192.168.168.11 will work fine. Then it makes sense. What you typed makes no sense.. so I am assuming typo.

It is possible to setup the airport as a WAP to this unit. the setup is going to be tricky.. I need some more info.. but can you decide first which way around you want to go..

For example I run my network on 192.168.2.x

My managed switch sits on 192.168.2.253 although I connect to it on blue moons.

It is hugely easier having it on the same subnet with the rest of the network though.

Almost irrelevant aside.

Switches are strange beasts.. often designed for Windows Explorer v4 or something..

I mostly use Chrome. It cannot get into the switch.. safari happens to work fine.. which is huge relief.. imagine going back to IE4.

I have an extra extreme that a could connect to the main network.

Easy peasy..

1. Move the switch to dhcp or just set a static IP in the same range (but outside the DHCP scope) of the existing network.

2. Plug in the extreme to power only.. set it up in airport utility to extend the existing airport.

Do this in the same room as the extreme to ensure good clear signals.

3. Plug it into the switch.. done.

4. Write a sticky label on the switch with the IP you moved it to.. tomorrow you will forget it.

Done and done.
