Q: Bootcamp, windows 7 not booting

HELP? plz

I can't get into my Win7 by booting my mac with option key pressed (Only Yosemite and Recovery 10.10.3 are available)

if I go into System Preferences>Startup Disk and restart onto BOOTCAMP(windows 7) it boots to a black screen stating something like: "NO BOOTABLE DRIVE"

Below is the output of Loner T's terminal troubleshooting

You seem to have a missing MBR. Please download GPT Fdisk - http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ and install it. Please post back when you are ready.

No worries. The steps to rebuild MBR to match the new GPT information thus resetting the Hybrid MBR are as follows.

Use defaults for other questions (like partition codes). The only values that need modifications are the Boot flags and step 10. Accept all other defaults that Gdisk offers. Please see the sample Q&A after the steps. The commands are single character commands (and the text in parentheses is an explanation and/or guide on the command). In step 6 you need to type the list of numbers separated by a space.

    1. Sudo gdisk /dev/disk0
    2. P  (Print list of parts)
    3. R  (Recover)
    4. O (print current Hybrid MBR)
    5. H (chooses Hybrid)
    6. Partitions numbers to be hybridized: 2 3 4
    7. Y  (Good for GRUB question)
    8. N  (part 2 boot flag)
    9. N  (part 3 boot flag)
    10. Y  (part 4 boot flag make NTFS bootable partition)
    11. O  (print current Hybrid MBR)
    12. W (Write the new MBR)
    13. Y (Yes! write the new MBR)
    14. Reboot

Here is sample Q&A for this section. Please notice the Press Enter/Return.

Place EFI GPT (0xEE) partition first in MBR (good for GRUB)? (Y/N): Y

Creating entry for GPT partition #2 (MBR partition #2)

Enter an MBR hex code (default AF): Press Enter/Return

Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N

Creating entry for GPT partition #3 (MBR partition #3)

Enter an MBR hex code (default AB): Press Enter/Return

Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N

Creating entry for GPT partition #4 (MBR partition #4)

Enter an MBR hex code (default 07): Press Enter/Return

Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): Y

Test 1 - Does Bootcamp Volume show up in Finder?

Test 2 - Can you see files in Bootcamp Volume?

Test 3 - Can you select Bootcamp in System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

Test 4 - If Test 3 is successful, select Bootcamp and Click Restart.

Just realised how lame I was... I haven't been to step 12! It wasn't written. Ctr+C and redo steps

Rebooting... I'll post back as soon as it's done.

    Thanks a lot!

    PARTITIONS!!

Do you want to proceed? (Y/N): y

OK; writing new GUID partition table (GPT) to /dev/disk0.

Warning: Devices opened with shared lock will not have their

    partition table automatically reloaded!

Warning: The kernel may continue to use old or deleted partitions.

You should reboot or remove the drive.

    The operation has completed successfully.

    Thanks a lot!

I was greeted by dread win update, but it boots both win 7 & Yosemite.

Btw, do you happen to know if win10 (Released Version, when it became available) or El Capitan (Beta test not Dev version) might screw MBR?

    just wondering...

PS: disregard my last post, I kind took a wrong turn but realised I could backtrack.

I will add the note that a control-c or q before the w will let you start over. The MBR steps can be repeated as many times as necessary, as the MBR is derived from the GPT and the GPT is not changing during these steps.

W10 should not mess with the MBR anymore, but I would highly recommend backups of both OSes before you upgrade either.

I am not allowed to discuss upcoming OS X versions.

I had the same issue as the thread creator.  When i followed ur steps 'Windows' appeared when i booted up my mac holding option, but when i launched it it said "Missing operating system".  How do I fix this.

Also none of the tests showed anything

Can you post the output of the following commands in a new discussion to avoid confusion for others?
