How do I delete a duplicate tv episode: article HT201812 doesn't work.

I experienced error code 8003 downloading a tv episode. Couldn't fix it following online instructions, so I contacted apple support who kindly allowed me to download it again and assured me that the broken duplicate would be removed. The duplicate was not removed. So, I tried following the instructions in HT20181 about deleting duplicate items from your iTunes library. Didn't work. I also tried just highlighting the episode, right clicking on it and selecting 'delete' from the menu. Didn't work.

Does anyone know any other ways of deleting duplicate items in your iTunes library? I'm using iTunes 12.1.2.27
