Q: iMac 5K bootcamp running windows 7.  bootcamp control panel problem.  volume keys not working.

Has anybody got imac 5k bootcamp running windows 7 working with Apple wireless keyboard volume keys?  The bootcamp control panel also seems flaky.  I can't save changes like drag lock.  It complains about error writing to start disk maybe wrong privilege, but I'm logged in as admin.

The bootcamp is automatically downloaded from OS X to USB stick.  So it should already be the latest version.

I have also updated my Windows 7 (except it's getting stuck and keep failing at Cumulative Security Update for IE11 (KB3058515).

Any idea?

    Can you check Device Manager for any unknown devices with a yellow triangle and an exclamation mark?

    Nothing unknown.  I do see 2 entries of HID keyboards. If I uninstall either one, then keyboard doesn't work.  Not sure why 2 entries there.

    I should add more info. It was running fine about a week ago. I installed the boot camp window 7 about 2 months ago And everything works.  I decided to reinstall the window to increase the partition from 150 gb to 400 gb. As the reinstall process through bca, it downloaded new windows support SW. I believe that's the only difference.

    THe he bootcamp control panel only shows version 5.1. But I did see the 4 digit 3rd minor number somewhere before.  Can anyone tell me which minor version is the latest bca for imac 5k?  Or which version you are running that's working On iMac 5k?

    the strange thing is that bootcamp control panel's setting can't seem to be changed as described by my original post. It said the startup disk can't be written to.

    ANy info will be helpful. Was bca changed recently?

    BCA and BC drivers are two different versions. The last time I used BCA to download the BC drivers, it was 5.1.5766.

    From System requirements to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support, please use the following matrix.

    • BCA: Use Boot Camp Assistant (BCA) to download the latest Boot Camp software. The support software available from Boot Camp Assistant is newer than what is currently available as a manual download.

    Please see BootCamp.xml on your USB's Bootcamp directory.

    Here is an example.

    <?xml version="1.0"?>

    <?xml-stylesheet type='text/xml' href='test.xsl'?>

    <!--Information on Boot Camp build-->

    <BuildInfo BuildNumber="5766" ProductName="Boot Camp">

      <ProductVersion>5.1.5766</ProductVersion>

    My version is

    <ProductVersion>5.1.5769</ProductVersion>

      <ProductCode>{FA2B2C2A-EA41-495A-9308-60726125D562}</ProductCode>

    I think there might be an issue with the new release.

    Is there a way to confirm this?

    You can try to use https://github.com/timsutton/brigadier and get the specific .5766 version and test.

    How do I specify the version?  The python script has no such option.

    I did a pull with all default parameters and I'm downlowding .5769 again.

    Do other Apple-specific functions work in Windows? Do you have any unknown devices in Device Manager?

    No unknown devices at all.

    All other functions are working.  Video driver is working, bluetooth is working, wifi is working.

    Only the keyboard functions are not working.  The keyboard is working, just the MAC control functions are not.

    So screen brightness and sound volume are not working.  It's kind of annoying when I'm used to them.  Now pressing volume down will make the window go full screen (F11).

    I'm just going to report this bug to Apple and see what they say.

    If anybody knows how to get older version of 5.1 bootcamp, please post it so I can give it a try.

    Have you tried Fn+F11 or Shift-F11 or Command+F11. Can you check which driver is in use for this Keyboard from Device Manager?

    I have also tried pressing fn with them.

    I also tried to check the box to default to MS keyboard layout thinking maybe it's reversed.  Not helping either.

    Basically the MAC keyboard is being treated as a generic keyboard.

    I can't check the driver now.  Will do that after get home.  But I believe it's being recognized as something like HID keyboard.

    Can you run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder of the USB which contains the BC drivers and test? There should be an Apple Keyboard driver called AppleKeyboardInstaller64.exe.
