How to retime video

I am using a template that I purchased from motionVFX. There are parts of the video that are timed too fast. When I went on the MotionVFX website, the information given on how to retime/speed up/slow down a part of the video said to use the Keyframe editor. When I move the keyframes it is messing up the rest of the video. Its like parts are being moved but other parts are staying where they are. Basically I just need each part of the video to last on screen about 7 seconds longer. Is there a way to just add 7 seconds to each of the keyframes instead of having to move each one? I think I am over my head on this. Please help.

Do you need to retime the video clip, or the the template animation?

Retiming of video is done by changing the retiming options in the Inspector:Properties

If you need to adjust the timing of a group of keyframes in the template from the keyframe editor, I'd go with the Transform Keyframe tool.

With the transform keyframe tool you can select a range of keyframes and then use the bonding box to "scale" or move the keyframes. For example you could select a set of keyframes that cover 120 frames and then stretch them to cover 300. I'd take some time to review the keyframing section of the documentation, it goes into much greater depth and provides multiple options for adjusting for timing. http://help.apple.com/motion/mac/5.2/#/motn1474ab82

Thanks! The problem that I am having is when I adjust the timing of the keyframes, some of the content that was attached to the keyframe is moving and then some of it is not. Meaning that if it was at 30 and got moved to 60, half the content was staying at 30 and the other half moved to 60. I can't figure out how to get it all to move.

If you've already keyframed content to the original video, then you group everything together and Clone the group (select the parent group and type the 'K' key). After that, you can turn off the visibility of the original group and retime the Clone. Everything you've animated *should* scale exactly to the new timing.
