Safest way to UNINSTALL CleanMyMac

SmithMicro sent email regarding CleanMYMac 3. Purchased it & installed it, but HAVE NOT RUN the program yet.

Just discovered the COMPLAINTS regarding its use.

Would it be better to just drag the application to the trash,

rather than try to use CleanMyMac's Uninstaller to try to remove ALL COMPONENTS of it ???

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), Concern about application

Contact the developer and request their uninstaller. After running it run an EtreCheck report and look for any traces of the application in the report. You can get EtreCheck by clicking http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

Going forward, NEVER install antivirus, cleaning, or other third party maintenance utilities for OS X. OS X does not need them and in many cases they will create more harm than good.

Good luck.

No. Since there is an uninstaller that indicates that bits and pieces of the application are everywhere on your disk drive. If you drag it to the Trash you will leave behind all of those bits and pieces which can cause problems in the future. So use the uninstaller.

All version of CleanMyMac are worthless scamware.

A simple Google search for "uninstall Cleanmymac3" will get you numerous links.

Once you're completed following the developer's instructions you can check to see if you've removed all of the files by downloading and running Find Any File to search for any files with the application's name and the developer's name in the file name. For example for CleanMyMac you'd do two searches:

1 - Name contains cleanmymac

2 - Name contains macpaw

Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop for deletion.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

so the consensus is about this and other kinds of add-ons should all come from App Store -- is this right?

(saw that they had a "disc cleaner", and it sounded similar to cleanmymac)

I will re-state what I said earlier.

It has also been known to do away with so much of the system so as to cause it to be useless.

Just because you have no problems with it, I will still stand by my recommendation that is dangerous scamware since I have seen the damage it is capable of doing. I have seen where it did so much damage to the system that the only way it could be fixed was to reformat and reinstall OS X again from scratch.

I think it was the user of this app who did the damage while using it. It is able to remove a lot, but the person has to know how to use it and what she or he can remove. Because the app gives you permission to do with the Mac things which are hidden normally, that is why if irresponsible person is using it, it makes harm. That is why you saw the damage which was made (make it clear) by the user of the app.

This is my opinion. I know what I keep on my Mac so I know what is needed and what is not. There is some knowledge needed. If people just delete everything this app is able to delete, then we face big problem. I use it now over a year and it is good to me anyway.

I am sorry to say that my testing of CMM3 does not support what you are saying. I had CMM# installed on a test disk and it proceeded to remove most of the system for me without any warning what so ever.

You can argue your opinion as much as you want but you will not convince me that CMM3 is safe after what I saw it do during my testing of it.
