Apple Application Support 32-bit AND 64-bit?

Hello all,

I was recently cleaning up the installed programs on my computer and found that I had Apple Application 32-bit AND 64-bit installed at the same time. iTunes must have done this when it updated, because I did not install these on my own. I have a 64-bit operating system (Windows 7 Home Premium), so is it okay to remove the 32-bit version? Or is it necessary for some sort of compatibility situation that iTunes has?
