home sharing from pc to apple tv

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction as I am so frustrated with this, why can't stuff just work

I am trying to share home videos from my PC to my Apple TV.

I have home sharing ON on both. On apple TV it keeps telling me to 'access your iTunes library on Apple TV turn on Home sharing in iTunes on you rcomputer using my apple ID'

(I have been able to share videos before with no issues)

I have restarted both the PC and Apple TV, I have turned home sharing OFF on both then back ON.

In iTunes: File>Home Sharing>Choose Folders I have selected a folder that has both pics and video

On the Apple TV: Settings>Computers > it says 'Turn off home sharing' so it is ON but doesn't show any computer connection

None of my folders are protected.

I am using a Windows 7 Sony Viao

Apple TV model is A1469 , 7.2

Thanks for any advice
