It sounds like you are describing a battery drainage situation where your battery needs to be charged too often. There are many forums that discuss this same issue that other users have. Reset the device: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the reset is complete, the Slide to Unlock screen will display.

If the battery is completely discharged, you need to recharge the battery to 100% prior to using the iPad.
If the battery is completely drained, the screen will stay black for a while, even though it is charging. Leave it alone for an hour and try powering it on then.

I had this problem this morning and was almost in tears seeing myself at the apple store pulling my card out of my wallet for a replacement.

this didn't work for me I have tried to charge it. when I wiggle the cord it turns green and then turns off again, now nothing when I wiggle
Sounds like a bad cable or a dirty port. Try using a different cable. If that doesn't help, then clean out your connectors with a clean, soft toothbrush or a toothpick (carefully). Make sure you get into the corners.

Apple I love you and have spent a lot of money on iPod, music from itunes and then iPad Air. It keeps needing charging. I don't use it during the day because I work with children. What heppened???
