Trying to install snow leopard on 2009 macbook pro

I have a 2009 mac book pro with OS x version 10.5.8. I bought the snow leopard installation disk but i recently discovered my mac book pro has stopped reading DVD's, it can read CD's just fine. I tried resetting the SMC and the NVRAM but neither worked. DVD's of any kind just keep getting ejected after a 10 seconds or so.

Now i know some other solutions could be buying a external disk drive or cd/dvd cleaner. But before i spend any money i want to know if there is a way i can do some sort of remote installation from my PC or maybe use a USB with the installation files. Or if if there is any other troubleshooting i can do.

Thanks.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8), 2.8ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. 4 GB RAM
