MacBook Display Not Functioning Well

So I'm using a MacBook Air Mid 2012, and the display is not functioning very well. It is quite hard to explain, so I'll do my best. When i try using the computer, some sections or all of the screen will freeze, until I physically influence the screen, allowing functionality with a somewhat inverted color scheme. It is only until I try lightly moving the right side of the screen clockwise that I am able to use my computer in color, only for as long as I hold it. This has been a problem in the past, and went away for a while, and recently came back. I am hearing from some people that the ribbon connecting the computer to the display might be damaged or moved. I just want to check if this is accurate before I assume this is true, and bring the laptop to Apple for a repair.
