Iphone 5 and Subaru Crosstrek

re: 2015 Subaru Crosstrek/iphone 5 (ios 8.3)

iPhone 5 successfully paired, I think, since I can make and receive phone calls, play music and receive sms messages. When attempting to send an SMS message I get the following "Connected device is not compatible with the feature". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
