Can I gold plate my aluminum Apple Watch?

Unfortunately, the aluminum body of Apple Watch Sport cannot be gold plated in any of the common techniques, as it is non-conductive. Chemicals in steel however are able to bind with gold atoms, allowing for a flawless micro-layer of gold finish for Apple Watch. As of right now, your best option is to get a can of gold spraypaint and some tape, just for the looks! The only way to really gold plate the Watch Sport is probably to actually attach a layer of solid gold or to take the watch apart, both of which are not gpod options.

Do you really want to void the warranty on a device that cost that much?

Sure they will say that, they want you to buy. However, if you read the warranty information, and non-Apple modification of the device will void the warranty, especially considering they probably have to take the device apart to be able to plate it. Same is true for the companies painting iPhones, that voids it as well.

Neither is using a can of spray paint....any non-Apple modification to the device will void the warranty as Chris stated above. So, you were joking about the spray paint, right?

it's always been my understanding over the years that any modification to apple products voids warranty.

Aluminium can be anodized as the space grey watch is, but again what is involved, the procedure, it may ruin your watch, remember we get gold iPhone's iPod's etc so it is feasible.

Anodized and plated are two different things. Apple anodizing your case, prior to assembly is one thing, someone or some company trying to do this after the fact is a different story, and will void the warranty. And, from what Anthony states, dipping in fluid would indicate the device has to be taken apart, so opening the device would void the warranty as well. I wouldn't say it is worth the risk.

Yes, I was joking, but if you look online people did actually do that (ridiculous!). It would of course void the warranty like people have been saying above.

The sad thing about that is there were people paying a company to do it to their devices, despite it voiding the warranty. If you can create a market for something, someone will profit from it, at least for a while.
