Q: Back Up & Google Authenticator App

When more than 300 miles from home, to open my Hotmail accounts I'm always asked for ' Authentication'.

The Google Authenticator app on my ipod provides the various codes needed to open my Hotmail accounts

..... I seem to remember that for it to be able to do this I (originally) pointed the ipod camera at a bar code

provided by Hotmail.

Because the Genius Bar at my Apple shop says I should backup my ipod to my computer & take it in for a

software repair  (Spotlight Search not working properly), I need to know if the Google Authenticator App will

be restored perfectly/in its entirety ....... can anyone advise ??

(The genius Bar also says  that PDF, doc files & photos are also saved on my computer when I backup, but

I'm dubious)

Thank You

    To restore from backup see:

Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps, synced PDFs, synced photos and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes. Those have to be on your computer in order to restored to the iPod when you restore from iTunes backup. If the Google app is on the computer the google app and its data will also be restored

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

    ‘Ello lllaass,

….thank you for your reply & the links.

I was under the impression that a manual backup (of my iPod Touch) through iTunes, copied everything on the iPod … PDF, DOC, MAPS files held within pdf/doc/map apps + all other apps + photos + videos + music, at location…. C:\Documents >>>Apple Computer \ Mobile Sync\Backup  (Windows operating system). ….. i.e on the computer  ‘C’ drive.    So, when I ‘restore’ from backup I should get everything returned to the iPod Touch.          Am I correct?

My query re the Google Authenticator app, was because of it’s importance to me.

No. This says what is in a backup:

About backups in iCloud and iTunes

If you restore from iCloud backup and the Google app is available in the app apt store then the data fro that apps should be restored. If you restore from iTunes backup the app has to be in the iTunes app library so it can be restored.
