Canon Rebel XT won't stay connected.

I connect my camera directly to the computer via USB. It is briefly recognized for a moment and then the connection cuts off. Battery is fully charged, CF card functional, as well as cable. Has anyone ever encountered this before? This does not happen with my Windows computer via the exact same cable.

It doesn't matter what program I use. The same thing happens.

There are several suggestions which may help you. (You might try connecting the camera with no other USB devices connected as a first step. However there are other suggestions in the above discussion which worked for some others.)

In this one, people found solutions by changing USB cables, using Image Capture, changing some settings, or changing camera cards. Different things worked for different people.

However if I were you, I would not spend much time on this with these myriad potential solutions, even though one may well work for you. Instead, I would obtain a card reader that connects to your Mac via USB. These readers range in price from $5 to $50, but the low cost ones generally work fine. Using card readers is usually more reliable and it does not run down your camera battery as well. (Newer Mac computers have built in card readers anyway, but if yours does not, purchase an inexpensive one and you can use it to get your photos while you are trying in parallel the suggestions in the above posts.)
