Why does my iPad Air2 ask for a code when pairing with a Bluetooth keyboard?

I have just purchased an iPad Air2 and Logitech Ultrathin keyboard to replace my old 3rd gen (and old logitech keyboard). Logitech instructions tell me that they should pair by going to the 'Bluetooth' section in the iPad's settings and selecting the Ultrathin keyboard. When I do this the iPad asks me to input a 6 digit code. I can understand this if pairing with another computer but it is just an input device. If I try to enter the code the iPad does not register the pair and eventually gives up. No matter how many times I try (after restarting etc.) it does not pair.

The iPad is running iOS8.3 - I had to update my software as my old iPad was running this version before my final backup and I used this state to set up my new iPad.

Any ideas?

Yes - fair point - I have entered a ticket on the logitech support site in case they have seen this before. I noticed that the product support page shows a different set of instructions to those that came with the device. These instructions cite that the iPad will request a 6 digit code and this code should be entered on the keyboard followed by 'enter'. This seemed promising because it at least is true to what the iPad is doing. Still does not work though so needs follow up. i think that you are right though - it is probably a logitech issue rather than Apple. I will update when I hear from them. Thanks!

Many thanks but I don't get as far as connecting in the first place so cannot select 'forget this device'. Very helpful though as it prompted me to try connecting with my old keyboard which connected first time without any problems. For some reason the iPad thinks that the new keyboard is a computer based device. I tried the restart by holding down the home and power buttons and then tried the bluetooth pair again but still get the same response. Thanks and nice try though ➕
