I keep getting a message that says "failed to Authenticate with Google" and my Gmail suddenly started to nott come up on my Mac mail.

I had the same problem. Here's what I did today today that seems to have solved the problem.
- In Google homepage, click blue icon in top right corner and ---> My Account
- In My Account ---> Personal info & privacy ---> Account Overview
- In Personal info & Privacy ---> Account overview ---> View Dashboard
- In Dashboard ---> Account ---> Connected applications and sites
- Here lies the problem. I found that, even though I have run Yosemite for many months, both IOS and OS X were listed here, WITH IOS INDICATED AS THE CURRENT SYSTEM. I deleted IOS, leaving OS X as my operating system.

Jan13dav, have the messages remained stopped? I have no more trouble at all.

I still get messages a few times a day that say, "Google Password Required" - enter your password for "jdavidnyc" in Internet Accounts. I keep doing that but still get the message. Any ideas?
Delete the password from Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities). While there, Keychain Access menu First Aid.
