There was an error adding the selected items to shared photos album

Hello there.

I've been giving Apple Photos a good go this week, with my new honeymoon photos. I've set everything up with iCloud, I'm paying for storage every month, the photos are syncing great across all my devices but I'm having a problem with iCloud Photo Sharing.

I have created a shared album just fine and shared it with my wife. The album is sitting there, called "Honeymoon" under the Shared section of the sidebar. But I simply can't add any photos to it. When I do try to drag photos to it, nothing happens at all. When I try to go through the steps of adding photos the other way (by clicking on "Add photos and videos" at the top right) I then get an error telling me "There was an error adding the selected items to ..." It simply doesn't work. I've tried to restart my Mac, but it still doesn't work.

The shared album does come up on my wife's Mac, but there are no images in there. But, if I add a photo to the album from her Mac, it seems to work fine and that photo appears on my Mac. It's very strange... Her MacBook Pro is around 5 years old. Mine is almost brand new!

Anyone else have this problem?

Shared albums do not require a paid iCloud subscription. The Shared Albums and MyPhoto Stream do not count against the free 5GB cloud storage iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ

Exactly the same here - the problem seems to be the photos app on OS X - even adding photos already in iCloud doesn't work I believe its a flaw that apple needs to look at - noting I've tried works

not impressed.

I hate to beat a dead horse but this problem has hit me too. When adding pics to shared album from my iOS devices I have no problem but when I try from my mac I get "Error adding selected photos to album"

I have exactly the same problem and only on my Mac. And some photos can be added (one or two), but with the most of I have the same error. On iPad/iPhone everything works ok.

you can do one thing that you go to icloud.com and all photos download in your PC and after that you can delete your photos from icloud and save your paying money for every month....
