Canon's Nana

Q: Air screen intermittently goes gray. You can still see the screen contents. There will also be an inch wide band up and down the screen when it does it. Anyone else have this problem?  Cost to fix??

    Howdy Canon's Nana,

If you are having an issue with your MacBook Air's display, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

The picture you included shows a bad LCD. There are 2 ribbon cables along the bottom of the display that can become loose or damaged. They cause the vertical lines/bars and fading to grey issue. Those ribbon cables are part of the LCD panel, so a replacement LCD panel will fix the issue. I wish I could say the cables could be re-attached somehow at a lower cost, but I don't know if that is possible. I have not heard of anybody offering that service.

Apple normally quotes around $450 for the MacBook Air display repair (2015 pricing). There are third party repair shops that can do the job for around $300 for 13" and $200 for 11" (2015 pricing).

Here are a couple good ones:

MacScreenRepair.com  <<(full disclusure I own this one and it is my favorite)

    RossmannGroup.com

    MissionRepair.com

    TechRestore.com

    IresQ.com

There are a bunch more, but these are ones I know personally and can recommend.

    Hope that helps!
