Q: my iPhone 6's lock button is miffed and keeps turning the phone on and off by itself very rapidly

After my run, my iPhone 6 lock button stopped working.  the lock screen turns on and off by itself rapidly over and over and doesn't stop.  Phone is near impossible to use at this point.  Lock button started working after a little while but is still having issues with turning on and off.  Any advice or just get a new phone?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3

    Hello FishyMoose,

If I understand correctly your Sleep/Wake button is acting like its being pressed when it isn't, and now is becoming less responsive when you acturally intend to use it. Normally those symptoms indicate to me that your phone needs service, but if it were me, I would reset the phone with these steps first:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

To force restart your device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

If the issue does persist after that then I would recommend service for your device:

    iPhone Other Repair Options

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Take care,

    Sterling

You do realize that after telling you my sleep/wake button doesn't work you came back and told me to use my sleep/wake button to solve the problem. Just wanted to point that out and hopefully you won't cut and paste answers next time.

You are indeed correct. I intentionally recommended the reset procedure which utilizes the Home button. The logic behind that was similar to resetting the device if the iOS software is completely unresponsive and you cannot turn it off, or make it sleep in the normal way because it doesn't respond to the buttons being pressed. The iPhone hardware seems to recognize the button presses, but the software does not.

I had an additional thought about this post last night too. You can also enable Assistive Touch to put a simulated Home button on your screen if you were able to get to your Settings to use in the mean time:

Use AssistiveTouch on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
