In fact when I had the photo open and the get info pane, the pan closed as soon as I tried to take a screen shot.
In the end I printed the pane separately

PLease could you write down your routine with the commands that you use?

Since Grab is another app, when you launch it you lose the ability to copy auxiliary windows from the screen. The built in method that Larry linked you to will get those windows.
