Q: 23" display problem

Hi, I am using an old 23" cinema display with my macbook pro. I've had it for a few years and never had any issues. A few weeks ago (it was after I haven't used it for 2-3 weeks) I plugged it in and it didn't work. The power light at the front came on and my laptop display went blue for a moment but the display didn't come on. I did a lot of research on the forums about this issue and while online the display came on and stayed on. A few days later I tried plugging it in again and the same thing happened. Today I tried again and it's been a few hours and it still didn't come on.

I have done a lot of reading and didn't find a solution really... did anyone manage to fix this?

Another thing I may add is that normally when the display is on it gets warm/hot and now although the power light is on the display and the power clock are stone cold...

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks you.

    Hi there Tuli666,

It sounds like you are unable to see anything from your Mac on your cinema display. I would use these troubleshooting steps in the following article to help you troubleshoot the computer side of the equation since your display has power:

Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays

    Reset the system

You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

    Reset the resolution

Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:

    1. Start up in Safe Mode.
    2. From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
    3. Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
    4. Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    5. Restart your computer.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Cheers,

    Sterling
