Why Apple thunderbolt firewire 800 adapter doesn't work on macbook pro 2015

I've been using the Apple thunderbolt to firewire 800 adapter (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464LL/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r) on my MBP 15" retina early 2013 and never had a problem. I just purchased MBP 13" retina, early 2015 and the same adapter is not recognized. I understand that it shouldn't matter that the 2015 MBP has a thunderbolt 2 instead of thunderbolt, especially since the MBP 13" 2015 specifications page (MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) - Technical Specifications) this adapter is mentioned as a compatible accessory.

I tried it with 2 different Firewire 800 cables and 2 different drives. All of the combinations work fine on my older MBP 15" 2013, but not on MBP 13" 2015. I also tried a regular apple thunderbolt cable by connecting new MBP 2015 to a MBP 2013 in target mode and it worked fine. It seem that only this adapter doesn't work and only on the newest MBP early 2015.

Can someone confirm that this is a known problem?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), 13", early 2015, 16 GB RAM
