Q: How to export a Final Cut Pro X project at 59.94 FPS?!?!

Hi there!

Im trying to change my exporting setting but it won't allow me to do so. I would like to export the video in apple 1080p BUT also export it at 59.94 FPS. The only option I am given is either 25 FPS or less.

This is a BIG issue for me.

Currently for my business I film basketball games, organize clips and create mix tapes and other related videos. I also have multiple people working for me across the nation whom are also using FCPX.

My intentions are simple:

- film the games

- cut the games and organize all the clips in X

- bring all the clips into the time line and export them

- from here other editors use my exported clips and create projects

BUT!!!

When I export this projects (Clips) they do not export in the same FPS as they were shot in. Therefore I am losing quality in FPS and that hinders my ability to use slow motion once exporting that way.

It is vital that I figure this issue out and finally find a way to export my videos in 59.94 FPS!

I know I could do this in other editing programs but I'm currently running X and find the organization methods much more simpler then the others.

If anyone has any ideas please help!

Thanks!

AAre you exporting clips or projects? If you export a master file it's in the frame rate of the clip or project you're exporting. Post screen shots of your clip info inspector and your project properties.

    Hey Tom!

So I realized I was filming in 1080i 29.94i fps. I recently changed it to 1080p 59.94 AND 28 mbps. What i'm still curious about is exporting. If I export the project (Master file) with all my clips at the video settings, the size of it is ridiculous. I need to be able to transfer high quality projects online through wetransfer and what not. Apple devices compressed the video for me but didnt export it at 59.94 fps only at 23.

Any suggestions to export with high quality and still compress the video to a smaller GB size?

    Thanks!

High quality and small are contradictory. Apple devices don't support 59.94. High frame rates require high data rates. How are you delivering? Work backwards from there. How long is the video? How large a file do you need? What data rate will that require? Is it high enough for good quality?

What about exporting the master file in H.264? It keeps the frame rate as the existing clip and project. This might solve my problem

After some trial and errors, I'm still in the same position as when I started.

I had two separate people running the same program send me two different quality of clips.

    1) This one was shot in 1080i 17 mbps at 59.94fps. When the clips is uploaded it recognizes it as 29.97fps. This clip was then sent to me and exported as a master file with the codac of H.246. After exporting the clip I brought it back into its only project file and slow mo'ed a portion of it. It worked but the quality if the clips was terrible. It sounded like it was under water and the picture wasn't clear.

    2) This one was shot in 1080p 17 mbps at 59.94fps. When the clips is uploaded it recognizes it as 29.97fps. This clip was then sent to me and exported as a master file with the codac of H.246. After exporting the clip I brought it back into its only project file and slow mo'ed a portion of it. The slow motion portion was choppy. Missing a frame every other time as i scrolled through it with my arrow keys (something that didn't happen in the pervious clip). The quality was much better overall.

Does it have to do with the difference between 1080 I and P? I find 1080i looks better in slow motion.

My main objective is to take the original shot clip...place it into final cut (clip it)...then export it with the same type of setting as it went into.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do!

I had two separate people running the same program send me two different quality of clips.

Not sure what this means. You mean running FCP? Did they import the media into FCP and send you the imported files? Or is this raw media from a camera? What camera? Or did they import then export and send you the exported files?

    1) This one was shot in 1080i 17 mbps at 59.94fps.

There is no such thing as 59.94 that's interlaced. Never. So i don't know what this is or how it was acquired, but the specs make no sense.

    2) This one was shot in 1080p 17 mbps at 59.94fps.

Both of these examples use the same data rate. Both of them come into the application as 29.97. I assume by uploaded you mean imported. It sounds as if you're getting compressed files that have been already edited in FCP. You're going through multiple compressions in a heavily compressed codec starting with a very compressed acquisition format. It's all going downhill from there every time someone touches it.

Where is the original media coming from? What's being done to it? How is it getting to you? Open the media in the QT player and post screen shots of the info window. Import the media into FCP and post screen shots of the info inspector.
