AOL Mail

I have a MacBook Air using OSX 10.7.5, processor 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3. I have been having trouble sending mail from SMTP server with AOL. I have checked my UserID and password they are all correct and I still get that error. From reading past solutions I don't see how to tell whether the server is on and I do not have any other servers to select from when I got into the edit server from list. I also have a desktop Mac and am having the same trouble. I go into connection doctor and it says mail connected to Internet but the SMTP server never gets the green dot. Very frustrated. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Well I learned a lot Jason but problem is not solved. Mail lookup was helpful and everything was correct. IMAP uses SSL and SMTP used TLS was what I read on AOL support page. All my settings are correct according to directions read.220- msg from AOL something about not accepting connections from IP addresses which no reverse-DNS (PTR record) assigned. I have no clue what that means.

thanks
