Missing photos when syncing from iTunes to iPhone

I have a rather random problem that appears to have only appeared since the release of the new Photos app. When I sync my iPhone with iTunes and select which photos I want to sync some are missing even though they are clearly sat in Photos. It is always the same pictures and doesn't matter if they are in folders, favourites or just collections.

Tera here appears to be no logic to this as they have all been taken in the past 3 months (the period synced on iTunes) and I've never had this problem in the past.

I can't seem to find anyone who has posted the same problem but please let me know if I've overlooked something.

Any advice gratefully received.

P.S. I do not use the cloud based services. This is a straight sync from the photos saved in the Photos app to my iPhone.

Thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

You are not alone Mulder.

I am trying to figure out the same problem.

I don't want to use iCloud as I have more than the free storage worth of photos. I have 20g free on my phone so it's not a space issue.

I've restarted the apps, the computer, the iPhone, changed cables, changed usb ports.

I've checked sync photos, selected albums, then the selected albums in iTunes and I get less than 10% transferred. Most albums are transferred, just without the proper numbers of images according to iTunes. All the photos were synced to my phone prior to the iPhoto to photos app migration. All the photos can be found, used, printed, whathaveyou with the photos app. So they do indeed exist. I've even uploaded one of them to test the iCloud photos feature, which was a huge mistake (now the only way to delete that photo from the cloud is to delete it everywhere). It's an iTunes transfer problem.

I recall this issue in the past, but then it was a iPhoto trash empty or something that fixed it. That option is not available with photo.

I have around 20000 photos that I synchronise from my PC to iPhone and iPad it worked well until yesterday.

I just bought myself a new iPad pro. So I started the sync process from scratch, It failed after a few hundred pictures synchronized. Their is no error message it just stops.

I made some tests using the dichotomy methodology to find out which directory was causing the issue. I need to do more testing but I suspect it fails when it encounters photos missing EXIF data. For example in my case it failed on scans of argentic films. Those files have no "date taken".

I wonder if others have the same issues?
