How to stop Charging Alerts in middle of night since IOS 8.3 upgrade on iphone 4S

I have two phones. Both are iphone 4s. Recently updated to IOS 8.3. Since then, my phones randomly make charging alerts during the night when plugged in to power. They are both plugged in with factory Apple iphone charging cubes and cables.

Phones never alerted during the night until the latest update.

Tried disabling notifications, tried 'do not disturb' mode. Tried everything I can think of. Nothing works. Phone just starts alerting during the night.

Turning on the mute is not an option. I need the phone to ring in an emergency.

Anyone out there have a solution or is this just an IOS 8.3 bug?

Next time it happens label the cable with a piece of tape or post-it etc. It is not clear to me if you are swapping cables or chargers between the 2 phones.

If it is one charger or cable it can be simple to isolate each part & test. If you have 2 chargers, 2 cables and no real history of which phone woke you up then it is a muddle to work out what is going on.

Also do your cables look damaged at all? Apple leads have a habit of breaking down near the strain relief…

That is a warning that the cable could be shorting out internally or losing connection.

An Apple store may replace a cable or failing charger depending on your warranty/ Apple care status. You just need to work out if which part is at fault so the store can see if fail easily.

The only "charging alert" I know of are the alerts that appear on the screen of the phone when the battery life reaches 20% then 10%. The only audible alert occurs when you plug the phone in. It sounds as if, for some reason, the phones stop charging at some point during the night and then start charging again. Are they plugged into the same power strip? Try a different one. Try different outlets.

They are plugged into the same strip, and I will try that, however, while I was away on vacation, the same thing happened in a hotel room and they were both plugged in directly to the wall outlet.

The alert makes the sound as expected when the phones are initially plugged in. Then, at random times during the night... it just starts making the alert over and over again. When I look at the phone, the battery status is lit up and showing 100% charged... no other notifications present. It will continue to make the alert until I unplug the phone.

Unbelievably annoying and so many lost hours of sleep these past 3 weeks since I upgraded.

Give the cables a wiggle to be sure they work without cutting out. Do it slowly & keep an eye on the battery charging indicator.

I guess it's possible for the charger to over heat & cut out. Are they both using Apple chargers?

You may want to look in the dock connector & the cable connector to see if there is any debris that could cause the connection to fail. It can be cleaned out with a cocktail stick if you are very careful, take it to an Apple store if you are worried about doing that - the pins are very fine on the dock connector & dock port. Do not use any metal to clear the port.

You could also consider backing up to iTunes & then erasing the device back to default state, see if it fails again then restore the phone's backup from iTunes & retest.

I agree with Meg. The power is cutting out somewhere, causing the phones to lose power, then the power kicks on after a split second causing the (re)connection tone. If they're both making the connection tone exactly at the same time, then it's either the power strip, the particular outlet that the power strip is plugged into, or the house wiring itself connected to the circuit that the outlet is connected to.

BTW, a very brief interruption to your power can go unnoticed until something like this draws attention to it. Not saying this is your issue but just letting you know that this can be a sign of something awry with your electrical system. I'd suspect the power strip first. Then work back from there.

Also note that iOS 8.x is much more sensitive to charging devices and cables being used with devices running that iOS version that previously may have had no issues whatsoever running previous iOS versions. iOS 8.x is more selective and more sensitive when it comes to 3rd-party chargers and cables.

Hi All -

Thanks for your replies.

As stated earlier... these are factory power cubes and cables that came with the phones. I checked all the connections and plugged into another outlet. Both phones charged overnight to 100% - and only one phone woke me at 4am. Like I said, it seems to be random. Never at the same time of the night. Sometimes one phone, sometimes both... and at different times.

Not sure I'm going to find a solution on this - so... perhaps a trip to the Apple store is in my near future.
