Q: Macbook air wont turn on and becomes hot

Last night my mid-2011 Macbook Air was working fine. This morning I tried turningit on and nothing happened. Tried the resets posted here but still nothing. Battery was fully charged (green light on the power cord). I disconnected it from the power source right after. A couple of hours passed and the unit is quite hot underneath. I reconnected it to the power cord and now the light has turned amber (maybe charging?), and still won't turn on. Anyone knows what I should do?

    Try these steps:

Restart your Mac with the Shift button pressed.

    - Shut down your Mac

    - Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button

    - Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key

    - Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign

    - Once you see Desktop, start a Disk Utility scan to detect and repair file system errors (don't forget to choose your main hard drive)

    - Click on Verify Disc and then, if asked to fix problems, on Repair Disk

    - After this, click on Verify Disk Permissions and then on Repair Disk Permissions

    - After the process is finished, shut down your Mac and turn it back on after about 30 seconds

Apart from that, take a look at this Apple article and follow the instructions on Resetting NVRAM shown there: How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

Take a look at the steps suggested by Apple in this article:

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for responding. Thing is, I could not restart the unit because I could not even turn it on, hence could not even do the shut down you recommend. even if I go through the motions above, it also does not give a startup tone and doesn't proceed to the grey screen either. It just remains blank and motionless... Is there another way to do the steps you described? Appreciate the help...

If a SMC reset does not bring life to the MBA, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation:
