Running OSX Yosemite Version 10.10
Problem: Preview crashes unexpectedly when typing in search box. Can sometimes get a few letters in before freezing up and then crashing. I've restarted the program and laptop several times. Please help.

This is a bug in Preview triggered by opening many PDF's at once. Try opening only one and searching it.
You're right it doesn't crash but what if I want to open more then one file at a time (which I often do)?
Seems like something apple should have fixed a while ago considering that this problem has been happening to others for years.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
Or you can use your Apple ID to register with this site and go the Apple BugReporter. Supposedly you will get an answer if you submit feedback.
