Q: Question about installing Firefox alongside Safari

I am planning to do some testing for http://www.whatusersdo.com/panel/. I'm using Safari Ver 6.2.6 and Java, which is the latest version.

I'm not able to run their application from their site.  It states "Failed to Validate Certificate. The application will not be executed."

The Support desk from the site, stated that I need to install Firefox.

The question is : can I install Firefox safely alongside Safari ?

I only wish to use Firefox for this website and I wish to remain with Safari as I'm used to it, it's setup the way that suits me.

Please can you advise this is a safe way of work?

Once Firefox is installed, I'm planning to have a copy of it in the Applications Folder and drag the icon the Dock.

Is there anything else that I need to know before I go ahead and install this?

If there are any steps missing please let me know.  My main concern is security and safety aspect of my laptop.

Thank you.

Yes FF is safe.  Also, it is best to have a backup browser.  You can set up Safari (or any browser) to be your default browser.

When Firefox asks if you want to make it the Default browser, just say not, that way Safari will remain the default.

If you accidentally say yes, and Firefox becomes your default, you change the preference in Safari -> Preferences -> General -> Default browser.

I use BOTH Safari and Firefox on my systems all the time.  In my case Firefox is my default, but there are situations were I either want a different browser or there is some website that runs better with the other browser.

A lot depends on how much RAM you have as to whether you keep both of them running all the time and how many tabs you keep open.
