Imac shuts down all by itself preceded by a msg on the screen telling me to power it off then on again. If this happens in the middle of the night it just powers off. It cannot be powered on again unless the power is switched off at the mains.

My screen goes from normal intensity to sort of grey / see-through colour from top to bottom then the above message is displayed. If I don't do anything then the whole iMac powers off after a certain timeout period. I cannot do anything about it except start it up again. This happens every couple of days or so, no special time period it seems. Could it be a virus or ???

The panic is related to a Time Machine backup, but there isn't anything else related to that in the log. I did notice that you have a SmithMicro software installed. I suggest you uninstall any AV or Security software you have installed. Such software is not required for OS X. After you remove it and restart the computer see if you continue having kernel panics.

Imac shuts down all by itself preceded by a msg on the screen telling me to power it off then on again. If this happens in the middle of the night it just powers off. It cannot be powered on again unless the power is switched off at the mains.
