Could you please provide some context?
IsUrinfosoft a good company to use for Malware ?
Do you have Malware?
Are you seeing popup messages for the company?
yes…..they also are a tech support company
Ok, I don't want to play 20 questions.
please explain what you are attempting to accomplish, and why.
Actually I am kind of computer illiterate so excuse me if I don't ask the right questions….I am using their malware and tech support as of yesterday and they seem to be legit and I just wanted some feedback ,if possible , on the company .
I Had never heard of the company, thus have no idea of how trustworthy they are. As to why you would need such tech support on an Mac, I have no idea. If you have chosen them based up on a popup message on your computer, it is safe to say you have been scammed.
So where should I go from here ?
Perhaps if you could explain why you need to enlist the help of a "Tech support" company, maybe someone could offer advice.
Thanks for your replies……I believe I screwed up and will deal with it…….
What stedman1 is asking is, what led you to contact them? Also, why did you think you needed their services? And what did they do?
My computer froze……a number came up , I called and they said they were one of the companies recommended by Apple to clean my computer without going to an Apple store… they cleaned it and installed a firewall . Once again I don't understand most of this stuff and i probably screwed up ….I paid $200 for this , but my computer is working great now and I have their tech support for two years 24 hrs a day . I just called them and they were there . And they have a website that seems legit….I guess they are legit but I didn't really need them ; there lies the extent of the scam hopefully……..
For future reference: If you get such a popup message, do not interact with it, do not call any number presented. Force quit Safari, then restart Safari while holding the Shift key. Also, I would seriously consider contacting your bank to determine steps you need to take to deal with the fraud. Because, you have NO idea what they have installed on your computer, I would consider it compromised and restore it using a backup that predates the scam attack.
As mentioned, these are scammers and they are not legit in the slightest. They have caused harm in many ways, to your computer and your bank account. First things first, contact your bank and have any charges from this company reversed. Let them know that you have been a fraud victim and give them the name of the company as they may wish to take additional action. Next, there's no telling what they really installed on your computer. You cannot be sure that you are safe without erasing your hard drive. See http://www.thesafemac.com/how-to-reinstall-mac-os-x-from-scratch/.
Lastly, if you have the time, please open Safari, and in your Mac's menu bar, go to History > Show History. If you can find the URL (web address) that displayed the pop-up, I'd be curious to know what it is.
My wife had a similar experience happen with a message saying to call an 888 number. When she called the number the guy tried to sell her security software but she refused. However, somehow he had (has) control of our computer. Will restoring via my AirPort Time Capsule to a time in the past before my computer was affected ensure that I am safe, or do I have to first wipe the hard drive? I don't know if that's part of the restore process already, I've never had to use it. Thanks
