Q: iPhone DHCP settings.
We manufacture an industrial device that has its own WiFi Access Point (Hotspot), DHCP, DNS, and Web servers. The device has its own pre-defined hostname and domain, "atb.qpm". The DHCP server provides IP address, DNS IP address, and network mask for the device's internal network. I can configure the iPhone's WiFi to connect to the device and the phone gets served an IP address. However, if I try to browse to "http://atb.qpm", the browser can't find the address unless I turn off the 4G. If I add a Gateway field to the DHCP response, the iPhone works correctly even though the device is not a gateway. When I connect a Windows PC with two Ethernet ports to the device's internal network, Windows starts to behave badly. The presence of the Gateway field causes Windows to route all its traffic to the device port unless I set its Ethernet interface metrics to a very high number. Our goal is to be able to use iPhone and Widows with our device without having to modify either device.
So my question is, can I add any setting to the DHCP response other than Gateway to get the iPhone to process DNS requests properly? I'm picking on the iPhone because my DHCP server is providing the minimal information for DNS to work, and it works for Windows and Android devices.
