Q: Yosemite printing issues to Epson WF-7620

I have a new Epson WF-7620 connected to my home network using wifi and I have 2 Macbook Pro laptops, 1 running OS X 10.8.5 and 1 running Yosemite 10.10.3, which is my main work computer, on the same network.

I can see the printer from both Mac's, however when I try to print from Yosemite, the job appears in the Print queue momentarily, and then disappears.

I have reinstalled the drivers from both Apple and Epson onto the Yosemite Mac, I now have v9.31 loaded from Apple. The first print job is accepted and prints OK, after which, jobs simply appear in the queue for maybe 2 seconds and then disappear.

I have managed to get a 'working solution' by installing a second printer queue using IP on the Yosemite unit, so now have 2 queues to the same printer, bonjour and IP, but still the bonjour setting fails.

Finally my other Mac uses Driver Version 1.0 but I cant find this driver, so cannot try this on the Yosemite unit.

Any advice would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Sounds like maybe the issue is Bonjour. What router model do you have? Do you have a fixed/reserved IP address for the printer set in the router?

Manufacturers give the current version drivers to Apple to put on the Software Update/App Store servers. The current driver listed for that model is 9.17(?)

OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download - Apple Support

I'd try Resetting the Printing System, then re-Add the printer. This forces OS X to find/choose the latest driver - whether installed on your Mac or on the server(s).

If that doesn't help, try deleting the Epson folder in Library > Printers, then Reset again, then Add again.

    Hi Greg

Thanks for the reply, and yes, I think I agree re Bonjour being the issue, although its only affecting Yosemite and not my other OS-X laptop, but to answer your questions,

My internal network is using a couple of Apple Airport Express base stations, connecting to the outside world using a TalkTalk wireless router, and I dont have a reserved IP address set for the printer in any of the units. Also the 2 Laptops, the Printer and the TalkTalk router are in the same office with the base stations hardwired using ethernet across the house to provide me with an extended wireless network.

I did reset the Printer System, and as you say OS-X then pointed me to the Apple site for the latest software - spookily it does show as 9.17 on the support site, but once installed it shows as 9.31 when you launch the printer and select settings, so not sure what that signifies if anything.

I've also just added a 3rd queue on the Yosemite using Secure Airprint to see if that has any affect, this then shows Driver Version v2.0 as opposed to Driver v1.0 for the non Yosemite Laptop

I will try your last suggestion of deleting the Epson Folder, resetting etc, and I'll keep you updated on progress

Thanks for telling me more detail about your local network.

I suspect the Bonjour issue is related to to the "nested" routers. Do you have the two Expresses set up to be wireless access points (bridge mode) with no router functions like DHCP/NAT individually active? Doing so will make your local network look (to the router or to any Mac) like a single network instead of multiples.

About the printer reserved address - this is always advised for any device (printer or server, etc) that is accessed by multiple devices.

    Hi Greg

Yes thats correct, the config appears like a single network across the house.

I will take your advice on setting a reserved address for the printer. However having setup a 3rd queue using Secure Airprint, appears to have resolved the problem, I was able to print to the unit yesterday afternoon, and again this morning, despite it going into idle mode overnight. So I may have stumbled upon the answer, thank goodness I had a couple of laptops to use for comparison :-)

Many thanks for your advise, and I will look at giving the printer a fixed 'reserved' address over the next day or so.
