is there a fix to ethernet cable (unplugged) error message in Yosemite

My wife's iMac lost its ethernet connection "cable unplugged/not connected". It is not the router or the cable, its in Yosemite..Are there ANY FIXES for this.. I've read a lots tries in the forum but nothing seems to get to the root of the problem ..

I understand that you are receiving an alert that your ethernet is not connected on your Mac. Without knowing what steps you have already completed while troubleshooting, I would suggest reading over and working through the suggested steps in the following attached article.
