- what system are you running?
- what version of iPhoto are you using?
- from where were you downloading and how?
- were you downloading from a digital camera and, if so does it have a removable memory card?
- what fixes have you tried?
- where is your library located?
- did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
- are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
- what type of Mac?
- how much free space on your boot drive?

Jun 18, 2015 8:49 PM in response to Old Toadby JOCHIA77,Hi Old Toad,
I'm still having trouble viewing and downloading the rest of my photos and videos onto iPhoto from my iPhone.
I will try to provide the necessary information to help solve the problem but this is the first time it has happened on my Mac.
I am using a Mac Book Pro, Mac OS X 10.6.8
Iphoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424)
I was downloading from the usual routine - my home - just plugging my iphone 6 onto the Mac. I use iphoto to download all my photos and videos from the iphone. Then I usually go to 'all images' to select the photos I want to transfer it to an external hard disk.
Yesterday when I tried to download the photos from my recent holiday from 9-17 June, there were about 700+ photos to download, and the notice said that the startup disk was getting full. After clearing some photos & videos from the 'all images' and 'all movies', I tried to download the photos from the trip. The notice said that there was a download error. I quit iPhoto and unplugged the iphone and tried again, this time iphoto only came up with 43+ photos, some from the beginning of the trip, and some from the end of the trip, 18 June. None of the 600+ photos appeared on iPhoto and I could not do anything to view them or see them on iphoto.
The last import on iPhoto shows 8 June.
The library is located in my hard disk under my name.
I'm not sure how to check how much free space on the boot drive. Where can I check this?
A further question: If I cannot download the photos from my iphone6 onto iphoto in my Mac, is there a way to transfer all the photos from my trip onto an external hard drive without using iphoto? Now only 43+ photos & clips are there and the rest can't be viewed or saved.
Would greatly appreciate some help!

How much free space was there at that time and how much do you have now? To check the free space select the drive on the Desktop and type Command + i to bring up the Info window for it. the info will be in the window:

Yes. Launch Image Capture (it's in the Applications folder), plug in your iPhone and download all of the photos to a folder on the EHD.
In the future I would not try importing that large a number of photos directly into Photos from your phone. Use Image Capture to get them in a folder on the Desktop and import from there.

You should NEVER delete photos from All Images - it is not a place but a list of all images on your computer including images within the iPhoto library - deleting any images form the iphoto library using all imaages will corrupt you library and may be some or all of the cause of your porblem
for a bit more detail see The Curse of All Files and All Images and False Duplicates
Likewise if you operate you system with less than 10 GB of free space you may cause irreparable damage to iphoto and or the system - when you run out of space it is impossible to predict that will get messed up but something will
TO see free space select your hard drive in the finder , right click and get info - the info window gives the free space
DO you have a good backup from before this all occurred? You may very well need it - and unless you have a backup of the phone when the photos we're on it they probably are gone

When you copy those photos to the EHD do you then delete them from the All Images search window? If you do you've removed them from the iPhoto library as Larry warned and damaged your library.
