Should I be concerned?

Hello everyone!



Let's get straight to the point, today I was gonna perform a little battery training by unplugging it and letting it go down around 70%. But when I did so, I saw that the screen didn't dim down and took a look at the battery status in the menubar and saw a "X" icon... I plugged it back in and then removed the charger and then it "detected" the battery again... My question here is, should I be concerned about it? I read around and it could be a sign of a faulty battery, though my system tells me that the condition is normal. Since it just happened one time and the fact that this computer is 2 years old, should I worry about it or do you think it was just a one time bug?


My cycle count is 62 and I usually keep the computer plugged in until I perform these battery drains to keep the battery healthy. I've had a few minor issues but I doubt it's that and everything works as usual. I have also noticed that the battery isn't as strong as it used to be, but hey, it's been 2 years and it still tells me it holds quite a lot. And it still charges up to 100%.

Is there any info from the system info I can try to copy paste here? My system in NOT set to english and might be a bit confusing..


After the battery drain, the computer went up to 100% as usual and I just tried unplugging and re-plugging and I didn't see the icon this time. A hardware test could be at it's place since I've noticed some odd issues etc WebKit freezing the whole OS while on my YouTube subscription feed.. I'm not too sure if a SMC is required since everything else is working fine.


One thing I could add is that theres some sort of corruption in the system files as reported by disk utility.. But this has been around for over a year now and possibly even from when I first booted it. And I see myself upgrading to a new rMBP later this summer.


Since this didn't happen again, do you think I should perform any other measurements?

If you are having battery problems, a SMC reset is a fundamental first step. It is quick and easy I suggest that you do it, but there is no obligation that you have to do so.


It matters not to me what language that the System Information report appears in. The sequence is the same and if I have to, I can translate the important words.


An Apple Hardware Test may provide a clue, but do note that an error free AHT is not definitive.


If you are having problems with storage, I suggest that you boot into the recovery partition and run Disk Utility>First Aid.

Hi again, I decided to run the test earlier but I got a problem...


I held the D key as advised on Apples support page, but I only saw a black screen and 2 text areas, one saying "reboot" and the other "shut down"..

I could NOT do anything else than just try to wait it out, but I heard the fans kick in and decided to force shutdown and boot it up again...

Should I call the Apple support on Monday and hear what the have to suggest?

Theres a lot of odd problems randomly occurring with it right now.. Safari freezes the whole OS, battery and charging issues and now this.. hopefully I'll upgrade to a new one before these problems get any serious.


Note: My MacBook Air was purchased and assembled in June 2013

Check to see if you got a kernel panic report. If so post it:

Alright, I took a closer look at the kernel panic article and went to the said folder and started to take a look at the logs.


I didn't find any recent logs for etc the WebKit freeze and power issues, however I found a bunch of "GpuRestart" logs that were made almost exactly a month ago. I also found some "Powerstats" logs from the 15th to the day the original issue occurred(19th) but not at the exact timestamp I think the issue occurred..

I also tried using the console application and search for "kernel" and got a few hits from the last 24 hours, none was a panic though.


I'll try to call the support on Monday then and hear if they know anything about the problem. I'm going to wait doing those NVRAM and SMC resets until the support suggest me to do that as even the diagnostics test failed...


Seems so weird that the computer works perfectly fine until you try to troubleshot it 😝


I'll post here again as soon as I get any updates!

I did some research on this and it seems to be a normal system operation and nothing to worry about, while I'm here I can also report that no further problems has occurred and I've taken a few steps towards a new MacBook purchase. 🙂

But I think I'll call the support tomorrow anyway just to be safe..


EDIT: Just as I posted this I headed back to my desktop to close down the finder window with the logs inside, and I saw that quite a lot of them were deleted and my system became unresponsive for a few seconds.. Could be OS X deleting and creating new logs, but I took a look inside the console application and found a few kernel logs around the time the freeze occurred, but to me they looked like normal messages and nothing too serious.

I just contacted the company that leases MacBooks and I think I'll acquire one pretty soon.


Not sure if it's really necessary to contact the support anymore unless some VERY serious issue pop up in the next couple of weeks.

The computer works fine and I think it'll work a few more weeks without any more issues.
