Compressor 4 Downmixing

Hey All,

I'm working on a 5.1 dvd where the audio (music) is more important than the video. We're releasing the dvd to have 5.1 audio as well as stereo. Making 5.1 AC3 files in compressor is working fine, but when that 5.1 file is played back through a non 5.1 system, the rear surrounds are down-mixed to be summed mono and we want them to remain separate.

I've made test dvds going through all the options under 'stereo downmix', switching between lt/rt preferred and lo/ro preferred, but nothing has worked.

Does any one have any help for this?

Thanks,

Compressor's DVD creation is very limited. Normally we'd create two audio tracks; surround sound and stereo. Then built a menu where the viewer could select which they wanted to have played. DVD Studio Pro was great at this, but has been dropped by Apple. Not sure about Toast these days. But no, FCPX/Compressor keep the mix as is, and won't do any readjusting on its own, nor give that ability to the DVD menu.
