Q: How do I get login selected iMac to boot off of CD?

I have an iMac from a school setting and it has the name/password screen on boot. I'm trying to wipe the hard drive by booting from OS X install discs and it won't boot from CD. How can I initialize the HD?

You can't. Someone has enabled Firmware Password. Ask the school's IT people for the password. Also, see If you lost or forgot your firmware password.
