How do I ungroup messages?

When I open mail I find many messages with similar subjects(?) are grouped together. I find this very annoying and confusing. How can I get mail to stop doing this? I have gone to Preferences but don't see any way to change this there.

Thanks,

Don

Mail preferences under Viewing> uncheck include related messages.

Mail menu under View> uncheck organize by conversations.

You can customize the toolbar in Mail to show the icon for both features where you can enable or disable at will.
