Clipboard file storage

I know there has to be an easy answer for this, but I have been unable to discover it. I am looking for the file location of clipboard items. For example, when you copy a screenshot to the clipboard, where is that file stored temporarily in OS 10.3.9? Is it the main Library, User Library? If in there, under what file name?

Thanks for the assistance.

Hi Melody!

As the OS X Clipboard will only hold one copied item at a time, To my knowledge, there is no way to actually view the Clipboard contents, other than to paste the item somewhere.

Or from the Finder Edit menu, select View Clipboard.

Each time you copy an item to the Clipboard, the previous item is overwritten, and there is no history, or storage of items.

If you want to retain a copy of a Screenshot, you can bypass the Clipboard by using the the Command + Shift + 3 keys.
That will place a picture on the Desktop.

Or the Command + Shift + 4 keys, to take a shot of a selection of the screen.

You're Welcome Melody!

Of course I could be wrong, but that is my understanding.

If you copy something to the Clipboard, and then restart the computer, the Clipboard would be empty, so in the event of a crash, the contents would be wiped out as well.

Melody Cady...

You can launch another application such as Preview and select File > New From Clipboard and a default .pdf is created. It can then be Exported to a .jpg if need be as then either can be saved as a file. This works mostly for picture files. Text can be copied and pasted into almost any text based application and some will allow pictures to be added into a text page. AppleWorks comes into mind here.
