Soundfont for Pedal steel, or lap steel

Hi guys, I new to Garageband, so I hope I don't sound like too much of an idiot. I have been searching for a soundfont for a Pedal Steel, or a lap steel in a pinch, that will work in Garageband. I have found a couple of soundfonts, but none of them have worked in the program. One of them has no sound, and another crashes the program. Does anyone know of one that will work, or alternatively is there a way to make a soundfont that does not work in Garageband work? I don't need one that is perfect, just something that is close to the sound. Not a lot of my bands songs use a pedal steel or a lap steel, but the ones that do would sound infinitely better if they had one.

Thanks in advance.

Are you using GarageBand 10.0? Most sound fonts and audio units will make GarageBand crash, because they are not 64-bit.

I don't know a free sound font Pedal Steel that will work with GarageBand 10.0. I use the Dobro Slide from the Jam Packs to get the slide sound.

I hope HangTime will drop in. He knows the sourced for siundfonts best.

Well, I am pretty new to this. Let me ask a different question. What I am attempting to do is use downloaded MIDI files as backing tracks for my small band. Garageband seemed like a decent way to do this, but would Mainstage do the same job for me? I basically need to be able to change the instruments, mute individual MIDI regions, and change volume of the MIDI regions, and then play them back when connected through a mixer. I am not modifying the individual tracks in the MIDI file, except for occasionally needing to place a count in Hi-Hat into the drum track. I wouldn't be opposed to buying Mainstage as long as it could do what I need it to do, and I understand that the Jam Packs come along with it, but that they won't work with GB.

BTW, I don't use my Macbook for a lot of things, and I'm not quite sure how to determine what version of GB I am using, but according to my AppStore everything is updated so I would assume I am using the latest version.

Thanks again for you assistance.

I have MainStage installed, but never used it, so I cannot tell you, if it will do, what you want it to do. Ask in the MainStage forum. I bought it only to get the JamPacks reinstalled. MainStage installs the JamPack instruments and loops in the same location as GarageBand, so GarageBand can use them. The JamPacks will show in the Legacy section of the library.

To find out, which GarageBand version you have installed, launch GarageBand and click the GarageBand menu > About GarageBand. Any Mac application will tell you the version number in the About panel.

My Library with the JamPacks installed by MainStage is looking like this:
